We Support Solar is a network of companies, NGOs and individuals who want solar power to be an important part of the renewable energy mix in the UK.

Our aims are for the government to:

1. Raise the UK’s solar ambitions to match those of other big EU economies
2. Leave the solar Feed-in tariff alone for households and communities until 2012
3. Back community-owned renewables, as the Coalition promised.

We are confident that continued investment in solar energy in Britain will create lasting economic, social and environmental change. The groups supporters include the Green New Deal Group, Friends of the Earth and the band The Klaxons, 275 MP’s, 500 businesses and 1000’s of individuals.  We believe that there is a huge opportunity to change the face of British industry with solar energy.

Solar power is an amazing resource with the potential to provide the vast proportion of the world’s energy requirements. Many countries have introduced feed-in-tariffs and other incentive schemes to develop strong and valuable solar industries.

We have only just begun…

The solar energy revolution has just begun in the UK. That’s thanks to many years of effort by everyday people, charities, entrepreneurs and politicians who know how critical solar power is to our future quality of life. We Support Solar played an important role in making sure the payments you receive for generating solar electricity are strong enough to enable solar power to take off in the UK. The UK produces less renewable energy than almost any other country in Europe and we need to catch up. The solar power ‘Tariffs’ were introduced in April 2010, and both the LibDems and Conservatives have said they want to increase the UK’s ambitions for the generation of local renewable power. Let’s hold them to that!

We Support Solar is asking the Coalition Government to Double the Ambition.

We Support Solar wants to keep supporters of solar in touch with take-up of PV in the UK. We want to tell you the good news as the UK finally starts to develop a domestic solar sector, which means training, jobs and business opportunities – as well as helping the environment and putting people in charge of their own energy. And we want to keep in touch because we may need your help too. Amazingly, despite the unprecedented need for renewable technology, there are vocal critics of solar power who do not want to see our energy system change. Unfortunately there are still influential individuals who refuse to accept the science of climate change, or who misrepresent the cost and purpose of the Feed-In Tariff system (See our Solar Facts section). The voices for the solar revolution still need to be heard - and we are heard loudest if we say it together.
